Global Lingo continues to recruit to support redundancy programmes

Global Lingo is continuing to recruit through the economic downturn, supporting its clients as they make redundancies.

The Department for Business, Enterprise & Regulatory Reform (BERR) states that any ‘employer proposing to make collective redundancies is required to consult in advance with representatives of the affected employees.’. Furthermore, an employment tribunal can make a protective award to employees of up to 90 days’ pay if consultation does not take place. BERR’s guidelines also advise that it is ‘good practice for parties to keep signed copies of any meeting minutes’, as it is important for the employer and employee representatives to show that they have acted reasonably throughout their dealings.

Global Lingo’s professional minute takers allow HR representatives to focus on their meetings and employees, rather than the onerous task of having to take and then write up notes. Using experienced writers can ease this burden, which can occupy already stretched staff for days if not weeks, and make a difficult process a lot more efficient. Having an impartial and independent record will also help if matters end up in court: the merger of Suez and Gaz de France, for example, was delayed because a judge required proof that employees had been fully consulted and not just informed.
