A judge is facing impeachment because an interpreter could not be found, it was reported today. The judge had to dismiss charges against a defendant who spoke Vai, a West African language, after the trial had been delayed for three years because a native Vai-speaking interpreter could not be found. Three interpreters were found initially: one left after becoming emotional while hearing the facts of the case; the second became ill; and the third was unavailable for the trial.
