CSR programme 2020

Following last year’s success, our local teams have selected new charities to devote their time to in 2020. Alongside this, Global Lingo is also implementing a global micro-lending scheme to support small businesses in each region.

In light of this, we will soon be launching the new charitable volunteering initiatives in each office, as follows:

Global

Kiva

Kiva is a sustainable micro-lending site, helping support small businesses globally. Global Lingo has donated $500 this year to kick-start this initiative and each office has $100 to lend and keep re-lending. This, together with another well-being initiative, using the fitness app Strava means Global Lingo can generate additional funds for the Kiva pot this year and beyond.

London

Vauxhall Food Bank

Set up in 2011 with the particular focus to help those in poverty in the Vauxhall area. They now run in partnership with London City Mission and work with over 125 local referral agencies from children centres, job centres, doctors, schools, community groups and more, to help those in Lambeth and surrounding areas, out of their short-term crisis.

Chicago

The Night Ministry

Global Lingo’s US team will continue to support the Night Ministry, a local charity in Chicago. The team will be buying, cooking and serving meals for vulnerable members of the Chicago community Sunday nights on a monthly basis.

Guatemala

Plantemos

Established in 2012 as a New Year’s resolution, this environmental program aims to help with the reforestation of regional forests. 200,000 trees have been planted until 2019 capturing 70,000 tons of CO2. The team in Guatemala will be helping to plant trees for this important cause.

Singapore

Willing Hearts

A secular, non-affiliated charity, Willing Hearts is wholly run by volunteers, apart from a handful of staff. It operates a soup kitchen that prepares, cooks and distributes about 5,000 daily meals to over 40 locations island wide, 365 days a year. Beneficiaries include the elderly, the disabled, low income families, children from single parent families or otherwise poverty stricken families, and migrant workers in Singapore.

Cluj-Napoca

Our Romanian team in Cluj-Napoca will be supporting two organisations. They will continue volunteering as a group each month to prepare hot food for up to 100 homeless or struggling local people for O Masa Calda, as well as CERT-Transylvania Association, Disaster Intervention Detachment helping people in difficult situations and those living in hard-to-reach areas of the Apuseni Mountains.
