Solution

Global Lingo:

  • translated UICC’s Cancer Atlas 2nd Edition into seven languages, including Simplified Chinese, Arabic, Farsi, Russian, and Turkish.
  • conducted multiple in-country reviews via UICC’s network of in-country supporting organisations.
  • typeset each language – around 69 pages in length – within InDesign and managed multiple rounds of linguistic sign-off ‘in-context’.

Global Lingo used specialist typesetters versed in composing content in different language types and scripts to offer the unique combination of translation, DTP working with InDesign and ‘in context’ review services. This markedly improved efficiency during the review stages.

In addition, Global Lingo:

  • translated UICC’s Cancer Atlas 2nd Edition into four languages: Simplified Chinese, Arabic, French and Russian.
  • responding to the tight timelines worked with three to four linguists and one proofreader per language to enable initial review within two to three working weeks.
  • managed rounds of in-country review via UICC’s network of in-country supporting organisations, at times receiving comments on marked-up PDF copy for amendment.
  • typeset each language – around 140 pages in length – within InDesign, and.
  • managed multiple rounds of linguistic sign-off ‘in-context’.

Global Lingo used specialist typesetters versed in composing content in different language types and scripts to offer the unique combination of translation, DTP working with InDesign and ‘in context’ review services – tailoring the content to include country-specific forewords, acknowledgement pages and logos of local partners.

As the project was successfully completed UICC recommended Global Lingo to the American Cancer Society, who commissioned Global Lingo to translate the Cancer Atlas into Brazilian Portuguese and Hindi, working to an even more challenging timeline.
