Hungary and Austria part 4: Christmas Krampus is coming to town

Written by on

Forget Santa Claus…The Krampus is on his way!

It is known that Father Christmas is kind to the children who have been good but those who have been naughty do not receive presents. However, in Hungary and Austria the children have someone a whole lot scarier to contend with…The Krampus!

You better watch out…

The Krampus is an age-old tradition, considered to be Saint Nicholas’s henchmen! They scour the cities and towns looking for the naughty children to beat them with a birch stick or drag them to hell! Nowadays you can find the Krampus around the Christmas markets in countries such as Hungary and Austria partaking in Christmas marches and chasing children through the streets!
