Auto translated content can affect your search engine ranking

If you want to rank translated web pages and you’ve translated your pages using Google translate or other machine translation tools, you may affect your rankings and contravene Google’s own Webmaster Guidelines, according to Google themselves.

Here’s a direct quote from the Google Webmaster Central Forum:

“…using automated translation tools to directly create content for your site could be seen as creating auto-generated content, which would be against our Webmaster Guidelines.”

Professional translation gives better ranking and improved user experience

All through the article the advice from seasoned search engine professionals is to use professional translation services to ensure good ranking and even more importantly a good user experience.

If you are serious about marketing your website in different languages then there’s no short cut to translation. While machine translation can be useful for getting the gist of a translation, it just can’t handle the nuance of language.

No doubt you’ve spent time and money on getting your branding in English just right, so leaving that carefully crafted brand to machine translation just doesn’t make business sense – even Google agrees.
