Company history

In 2006, entrepreneur Andrew Trotter had a vision for a new kind of transcription company – one that would focus on providing outstanding transcription quality and exemplary customer service. With only a handful of writer contacts and a team of one, Global Lingo began life in a small office in London.

As a new business with just one customer, the primary focus was on retention. By delivering consistently superior levels of service, Global Lingo did not just retain that customer; they became advocates for the business. Very quickly, by recommendation, word spread that there was an innovative transcription and minute-taking company setting new benchmarks for service delivery!

The team quickly expanded to cope with the demand for Global Lingo’s services. It soon became apparent that customers wanted to experience the same levels of service for their non-English language requirements. In 2010, in response to demand, Global Lingo created a new business unit in Leeds focused on translation and interpreting services. With a reputation growing in stature, Global Lingo was able to attract talented and experienced staff in both Leeds and London, improving yet further the overall customer experience.

Expansion into Europe and Asia

Next came moves into Singapore (2011) and Cluj-Napoca in Romania (2012). With the opening of Singapore, Global Lingo was able to offer their existing customers the same services and customer experience in Asia. Being able to support their global customers’ Asia‑Pacific operations further enhanced Global Lingo’s reputation, and Singapore soon became a key hub and important entry point to new opportunities in the region.

The opening of Cluj-Napoca was a defining moment in Global Lingo’s history. Opening in a third time zone improved their ability to cover the greater part of a 24‑hour period and respond to tight deadlines. With access in Cluj-Napoca to a well-educated and multi-lingual population, Global Lingo was able to bring on board experienced commercial managers to work on project management, purchasing, processes and administration.

2015 and beyond

In the ten years since their inception Global Lingo has experienced exponential growth, and the future is a bright one! They continue to be a privately owned, financially sound (debt free) and sustainable business that stays true to its visons and values!

The company continues to thrive and has built a significant and diverse customer base which includes BP, HSBC, Honda and Mishcon de Reya, as well as a number of other significant financial institutions, listed corporations, technology start-ups, e-learning companies, not-for-profit organisations and public sector institutions.

In 2015, an experienced international CEO, Mark Williams, was appointed to take the company to the next level and write a new chapter in the company’s history.
